About Me:
You’ll find a full history of my musical life on Page 3. On this page, I’m describing my present situation.
I actually have two jobs, day and night. Gary K takes up the evenings.
In the daytime, I run a business called GK Electronics. I am an electrician / electronics engineer, with particular interest in the sound / lighting / AV world.
On the leisure and entertainment side, I sell, hire and repair sound and lighting equipment used by entertainers, venues, associations etc. I install stage lighting, sound and effects lighting, background music systems, PA systems, etc. On the AV side, I sell and install projectors, screens and interactive whiteboards in schools and commercial premises. I also provide a full A/V service for many conferences and for exhibitions etc.

Gary K Equipment: Over the last 14 years I have exclusively used ‘Korg’ keyboards, starting with the i4s, then the i30, PA80, and currently the PA800. These are all of the ‘Professional Arranger’ series. I use them in 2 modes. Generally I use ‘Style Play’ mode. I choose a style - waltz, quickstep, 60’s rock etc, and the keyboard is automatically set up with regards to tempo, instruments, etc. I play a chord with my left hand and the keyboard uses this to create the orchestration. If I play a wrong note, then the keyboard also does! My right hand can then add extra backing instruments or play the lead as required. I can also use ‘Song Play’ mode, where a dedicated arrangement for a particular song is stored as a midifile. I then play extra backing with my left hand, and lead/backing with my right hand. This give a far-more authentic reproduction of the song, but is limited in that I can only play the one song with it and have to stop to go to the next one. In Style play mode, I can extend songs at will, or merge them together to give a continuous session.
With the current PA800 keyboard, the need for a separate mixer and other outboard processing equipment has been eliminated - the keyboard has a mic input and TC Helicon digital processing built in, thus I connect the keyboard direct to an amp and speakers. I use an Ecler digital amp and FBT speakers, to compliment the quality of the Korg. |
